Notes on disposal, compliance and realised value.

This section is planned, not published. Below is the editorial direction we propose for NSB Auctions: practical guidance for the people who carry the governance risk on a disposal, and commentary on the markets those assets sell into.

Proposed topics

Nine topics we would start with.

Each card below is a topic proposal, not an article. Nothing here has been written, reviewed or published.

Placeholder article cards, shown to demonstrate the layout of this section only. No article content has been written and nothing here has been published. Before this page goes live the client must decide three things: who authors this section, how often it publishes, and who signs off each piece before it appears. Every headline below is a proposed topic that still needs to be researched, written and approved.
Two people reviewing disposal documents across a desk

Draft topic

Proposed: what MFMA compliant asset disposal actually requires

A plain reading of the disposal obligations that sit on a municipal finance officer. What the process has to produce, and what an auditor asks for once the assets are gone.

Ring binders of records filed on a shelf

Draft topic

Proposed: the disposal report an auditor expects to see

A section by section walk through of what belongs in a disposal report. Lot detail, bid history, reconciliation, and the trail that connects the three.

Bidders inspecting vehicles on an auction floor

Draft topic

Proposed: FICA verification protects the seller, not only the platform

Bidder verification is usually treated as the auctioneer's administrative burden. This piece would argue it is the seller's protection, and set out what verification should cover.

A site inspector with a two-way radio checking equipment

Draft topic

Proposed: how condition reporting lifts realised value on used plant

Buyers discount whatever they cannot verify for themselves. This piece would set out the condition detail that removes guesswork from a bid, from hours and serials to photography.

A row of earthmoving plant lined up in a yard

Draft topic

Proposed: setting a defensible reserve without capping the bidding

A reserve set too high kills momentum in the room. Set too low it invites questions afterwards. This piece would cover how a professional valuation supports the number you choose.

Shipping containers stacked at a storage site

Draft topic

Proposed: choosing between live, online, timed-online and on-site

Auction format is not a preference, it is a function of the asset, the buyer pool and the site. This piece would map each of the four formats to the disposals it suits.

Municipal refuse vehicles parked in a fleet depot

Draft topic

Proposed: what happens to municipal fleet once it leaves the depot

Where retired municipal vehicles go, who buys them, and what those buyers are looking for. Written for the fleet and finance officers deciding when to release a vehicle.

A mining haul truck standing on a haul road

Draft topic

Proposed: yellow metal and the timing of a mine disposal decision

Idle plant keeps depreciating while a decision is deferred. This piece would look at how disposal timing interacts with demand for used earthmoving and mining equipment.

Racked stock held in a warehouse

Draft topic

Proposed: insolvent estate disposal and where the delays come from

Court compliance, competing creditors and incomplete asset registers. This piece would map the ordinary causes of delay for liquidators and executors, and what shortens them.

Editorial direction

Three pillars this section could run on.

The readers NSB Auctions cares about are municipal finance officers, liquidators, mine procurement managers and bank asset-recovery leads. Everything published here should be useful to at least one of them.

Compliance and governance

Guidance for public sector disposal. What the MFMA and PFMA regimes require in practice, what belongs in a disposal report, how an audit trail is built, and where disposals usually come apart under examination.

Maximising realised value

Guidance for asset owners. Preparation, cataloguing detail, condition reporting, reserve setting, format selection and timing. The controllable decisions that move the number an asset finally realises.

Market and sector commentary

Observations on the sectors NSB Auctions works in: municipal and government, mining and industrial, banking and finance, liquidation and estates. Written from what the auction floor shows, not from forecasts.

Build note. A simple content management approach will be needed before this section can publish. Articles cannot stay hard-coded in HTML if a non-technical author is expected to post regularly. The options are a lightweight CMS, a headless service, or a documented handover process where NSB supplies the copy and the developer publishes it. This decision affects cost and turnaround time, so it should be settled before the first article is commissioned.

Stay on the list

Insights, and notice of upcoming auctions.

If you dispose of assets or buy them, the same list serves both. Compliance notes when they are published, and advance notice when a relevant catalogue opens.

Reading about disposal is not the same as starting one.

If you are holding redundant fleet, plant, equipment or surplus stock, tell us what it is. We will come back with a valuation view, the right auction format, and a timeline.
